Details:
The Following are the game rules and regulations for Beaver Cup Pond Hockey Festival:
-Fast, exciting 4 on 4 format on ice with a maximum of 8 players per team (No goalies).
-Each team is guaranteed 3 games with a chance to play 5-6 games in total.
-35 minute games
ALL GAMES WILL BE PLAYED OUTDOORS ON THE RIDEAU CANAL AT DOW’S LAKE.
-Games are two 15 minute periods.
-All players must meet the age requirements for each division. 20 for the Recreation Division and 36 for the Masters Division. Proof of age is required at registration or at anytime thereafter.
-All nets are 6′ (feet) in length and 10″ (inches) in height.
-In the event the Rideau Canal is not open, the Beaver Cup will be moved to Carleton University Parking Lot (tbd) for an outdoor ball hockey tournament.

OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT RULES
-A coin toss will determine which goal to defend. Teams will switch goals after first half.
-All players must wear hockey helmets and hockey skates. Protective equipment, gloves, shin and elbow pads are optional. Most importantly, dress for the weather conditions.
-No goalie equipment or goalie sticks permitted.
-All teams must have matching light and dark jerseys or uniforms. * Numbers on back of jerseys are required.
-There will be one off-ice pond official to monitor the play (scoring, time, puck reset, and arbiter of infractions).
-Penalties will be called for rule infractions. Penalties called by the referees and are final. A minor penalty will result in a goal awarded to opposing team as well as possession of puck. Referees will notify teams when a goal is awarded due to a minor penalty.
-Any major penalty, which includes any action that could possibly injure another player, will result in that player being ejected from the tournament. The team that received the ejection will play the remainder of the tournament short-handed (3 vs. 4). Off-ice pond official will determine major penalties.
-Abuse of officials will be considered a major penalty. This includes yelling, swearing, or arguing about calls.
-No checking is allowed. Such action will result in a minor penalty unless deemed serious enough to be a major (see off-ice pond official).
-No slapshots allowed. Such action will result in a minor penalty.
-Players cannot fall or lay on the ice in an effort to protect the goal area. Such action will result in a minor penalty.
-Goaltending is not allowed. A player may not patrol, “camp out” or remain stationary in the crease area and act as a goaltender. A defender may deflect the puck in the crease area, but the defender must do so while continuing to move through the crease area. The crease area is defined as an imaginary box extending out four feet from the outside corners of the goal.
-Contacting the puck with a stick above the waist will result in a loss of possession.
-Raising the puck intentionally will result in a loss of possession.
-If a puck goes out of bounds, the last team to touch it loses possession. During restart, the defender must give his opponent 2-stick lengths of space.
-There are no off-sides or icing calls.
-Goals must be scored from the attacking side of center ice.
-Referees will call out the score after each goal. This includes goals scored by players or awarded from minor penalties.
-Teams must give their opponents 1/2 ice after a goal is scored or an infraction takes place.
-Games will be composed of two 15-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime.
-In the event of a tie during both qualifying and championship games, the play will move to sudden death.

THERE IS TO BE NO NET MINDING OR STANDING IN THE KEY! If this Goal Tending behavior continues, loss of puck possession will result.

The game is intended to be played in good faith and spirit. Poor sportsmanship will NOT be tolerated by the Ice Rocks Live Team or Officials. Keep it clean, fun and safe for everyone to enjoy. Teams will be ejected for any disruptive, abusive or un sportsmanlike behavior. The Official’s decision is final.

Whether you are part of a competitive team or just getting a bunch of buddies together for fun, this is the tournament for you. Each team will get a minimum of 4 games. The top 6 in each division will earn their way into the playoffs until we get down to the final 2 teams – so some teams may get up to 7 games over the weekend – so plan your roster accordingly.

But skating is not the only draw – many of you will come for the “after hours” part of the tournament – the good food and great libations from all of the local taverns and restaurants of Dover NH – most within 1/2 mile of the pond. Lodging is close by as well and many of the hotels will be offering shuttles to and from the rink to help serve you.

So get your team together and sign up now – only 10 teams per division will be able to play! Don’t wait.
